A Candid Prayer

Jesus, I would like to follow you.

In this moment, it feels like the most important thing in the world.

But I am easily distracted. And when it’s tomorrow, I will probably get off track with other things. I might worry about money, or be anxious about measuring up with others.

I might get bogged down with the news, or be tempted to look at, listen to, think about, invest in, or do things that are not best for me.

I also have some questions.

So if I’m going to follow you, I need you to help me.

Hold my hand as I limp along.

Turn and re-turn my eyes to the path in front of me.

Call me back when I wander off.

Give me power for the journey because I don’t think I have it in me.

Remind me of your words when other voices are ringing in my ears.

I can’t speak for tomorrow, but I can speak for today. I want to follow you, so don’t give up on me, and help me not give up on myself.

O God, make speed to save me. O Lord, make haste to help me.

I am yours. Amen.
